All RICE baskets are handmade from Raffia, which naturally varies in color, and this variation is reflected in the dyeing process. Sometimes the color is light, other times more vivid. This means no two baskets are exactly alike. The same applies to their shape, which can also differ slightly. We believe it’s part of the charm that you can tell the product is handmade. If you order multiple baskets at once, we will send those that are closest in hue and shape to each other. Unfortunately, we cannot provide photos of the different variations.

About the material: Raffia fibers are an amazing natural material derived from palm leaves, and Rice’s raffia comes from Madagascar. All raffia products are made with heart—they are produced in two villages in Madagascar’s mountains, where production contributes to better and more resources for the towns’ inhabitants. The production supports more than 300 families on the Red Island. Since raffia is a natural material and the baskets are handmade, each product will vary slightly in color, shape, and size. Colors will fade if the product is exposed to constant sunlight. Avoid water as it may cause color transfer.
